The Good Guys Don’t Always Win
This time, the bad guys as well as the good guys are losing out. An announcement came out today that Paragon Studios, a division of NCSoft, is shutting down. This means an end to the first super-hero MMORPG, City of Heroes. All subscription billing has ended for the game as they make plans for the finals weeks of the game after over 5 years of running. No official end date was given in the announcement which can be found here.
City of Heroes was my first MMORPG. I never thought I’d pay for a game and then continue paying a monthly fee. That was until a friend of mine told me about a super-hero game that was just coming out. Being the comic book geek that I was (and still am), I had to try it out. With the major character customization that hadn’t been seen before or since. The game was a lot of fun and I enjoyed playing with my friends online. I played for a long time before moving on with my friends to Everquest 2. I’ve been back in game on and off over the years, especially when City of Villains came out. It was a fun game even if it became a bit repetitious. It’s going to be sad to think that the characters I built up over the years will be gone soon.
